Colour Above. Colour Below. A Shared Responsibility.

Colour Above. Colour Below. A shared responsibility.

Every year on 1 June, World Reef Day reminds us of the importance of protecting one of the planet’s most valuable ecosystems, our coral reefs.

As a colourant manufacturer, Amazon Colours knows how much colour matters. It tells a story. It reflects life. A colourful world is a thriving one, and this includes the world beneath the waves. In one of the earth’s most vital ecosystems, the ocean, the presence of colour is a sign of health. That’s why Amazon Colours supports all efforts to protect our oceans, especially their coral reefs.

Through our sponsorship of the LIVINGSEAS FOUNDATION in Bali, Indonesia, Amazon Colours is helping to restore damaged coral reefs and support healthier marine life. These reefs are being devastated by pollution, climate change, over-tourism and uncontrolled coastal development, challenges that continue to threaten oceans around the world.

Coral reefs are often called the “rainforests of the sea” because of their extraordinary biodiversity. Although reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, they support nearly 25% of all marine life. They provide shelter, breeding grounds and food sources for thousands of species, while also protecting coastlines and supporting local communities through tourism and fishing.

The LIVINGSEAS FOUNDATION’s restoration site in Padangbai, Bali now covers more than 8,500m² and consists of over 8,700 reef structures. Their goal is to restore 5 hectares (50,000m²) of coral reef along the coastline to Amuk Bay.

The restoration process uses specially designed “reef stars” – sand-coated metal structures that stabilise the seabed and create a foundation for coral growth. Broken coral fragments are carefully collected, cultivated and replanted onto these structures before being installed underwater by the LIVINGSEAS diving team.

Since beginning our sponsorship in January 2026, Amazon Colours Indonesia has helped fund the planting of 324 corals across 18 reef star structures, already restoring 10.8m² of reef area.Amazon Colours is proud to contribute to protecting the oceans that sustain life on Earth.

This World Reef Day, we’re reminded that each one of us can help by reducing plastic use, cleaning up beaches, supporting sustainable tourism, or simply spreading the word – small actions can help protect our magnificent colourful coral reefs for future generations.
